We’re renovating a Victorian semi and our garden walls were in a terrible state - crumbling, collapsing in places, and generally looking beyond saving. What we wanted was someone who understood that these walls are part of Brighton’s history, not just a problem to cover up. Mike absolutely gets that! His knowledge of bungaroosh construction is incredible, but what really stood out was the care and craftsmanship he brought to the job. He painstakingly repointed the walls using lime, rebuilt collapsed sections in the traditional way they would originally have been constructed, and managed to preserve all the character and texture that makes these old walls so special. Watching him work felt more like seeing a conservation craftsman than a standard builder. I learnt loads along the way too - including why full bricks were rarely used historically because of the old brick tax. Michael genuinely cares about the history and authenticity of these structures, and it shows in every detail. The finished walls look beautiful: solid, breathable, full of character, and completely in keeping with the age of the house. He’s brought them back to life rather than erasing their story. It’s rare to find someone with this level of specialist knowledge, pride in their work, and respect for traditional building methods. We feel incredibly lucky to have found him and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone restoring a period property in Brighton."
